I picked up the Acer Swift 3 while on the hunt for a new work laptop (software developer). To be honest, I was sceptical of going with Acer due the brand struggling with pushing out sub-par build qualities in the past. But, to give them a chance at redemption I thought, “what the hell”, and decided to pull the trigger and take this sleek looking machine for a test ride.
Long story short, the Acer Swift 3 has turned out to be one of my favourite work laptops due to its design, performance, and durability, but it’s not without its flaws.
Quick note on my dislikes
The first thing I noticed on the Acer Swift 3 is the large bezel around the display. Now I know it is difficult to have a nice bezel-less 14″ display, but this thing is large enough to grab my attention (hard thing to accomplish most days…). Having this extra room around the FHD display allows for placement of extra goodies by the manufacturer (the large Acer logo sitting dead centre on the bottom, and the half-inch diameter webcam up top). Speaking of the FHD display, it leaves much to be desired. Browsing around my local Best Buy, I immediately noticed that the display on the Acer Swift 3 is on the lower end of the curve with respect to the population.
Although these notes may seem harsh on their own, this is me just nitpicking the quality of this laptop. In my eyes, it is a must buy for any programmers on the go.
